Historic Vandalia, Indiana
(Village Platted February 1839)

In 2019 the two treasured historic structures  remaining in this village, our chapel and schoolhouse, were placed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Indiana Registry of Historic Sites and Structures.

Land for a church was deeded by Elijah Powell to the Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1853. The present chapel was erected in 1895.

Land for the District # 2 School was deeded by James M. and Ellen Davis to Lafayette Township in 1863. Local children were taught in the one-room school building from 1868 until 1951.
